NVIDIA GR00T N1.7 goes commercial — robot foundation model leaves research-only status

GR00T N1.7 VLA moves to commercial early access, removing research-only limits. Jensen Huang previewed GR00T N2 claiming 2× task success vs. current top VLAs.

NVIDIA moved GR00T N1.7 from research preview to commercial early access. The model is a vision-language-action (VLA) foundation model designed for humanoid robots — it takes camera observations and language instructions as input, outputs joint-space actions. The commercial license removes research-only restrictions for the first time.

Jensen Huang simultaneously previewed GR00T N2, which NVIDIA claims more than doubles task-success rates compared to the current leading VLA models. Target availability is end-2026. Production robots from Boston Dynamics, Franka Robotics, and NEURA Robotics are already shipping on the NVIDIA Isaac stack.

Practitioner note

The commercial license is the signal: robot foundation models have crossed from R&D to production. Check the GitHub repo for model weights and Isaac Sim integration. If you work on simulation-to-real pipelines, the companion Cosmos 3 world model for synthetic data generation is worth pairing with GR00T — generating diverse training episodes in simulation remains the main data bottleneck for VLA fine-tuning.
